The Bay
A peninsula between two waters: the bay on one side, calm and green, the ocean on the other, vast and loud. Everything moves by bike or by boat, following the tides and the Bélisaire jetty timetable.
Le Canon and L'Herbe
The oyster villages and their huts, 5 minutes by bike. Every hut has its grower, every grower a tasting bench: a dozen oysters, a glass of white, the bay in front.
The Dune du Pilat
Right across the water, 30 minutes by boat from the Bélisaire jetty. Climb it at sunrise, before the heat and the crowds.
The ocean
On the far side of the peninsula, ten minutes by bike: lifeguarded beaches in summer, waves for surfers, sunsets for everyone.
On the water
Around the Île aux Oiseaux and its stilt cabins, a picnic on the Arguin sandbank, the villages seen from the sea. The pinasse trip is arranged from the house, with a sailor from the village.
At low tide the bay becomes a country of sandbanks.
Everything is within fifteen minutes
Six bikes wait in the shed, baskets ready for the market. The lighthouse, the bay and ocean beaches, the villages: the peninsula is flat and the cycle paths go everywhere.
The Cap Ferret market runs every morning in summer. You come back with the bread, the fruit, and the ice cream that did not survive the ride.
